It’s a solid, well-written premiere with some good laughs, but it feels more like a “girl” comedy than a romance. This is especially true compared to its shonen predecessors, which are more focused on actions, goals, physical strength, and the power of friendship.

Tomo has had a crush on Jun since middle school but doesn’t seem to notice. She’s made it her mission to try and change herself into a more feminine person to attract him, but it seems like he’s too dense to understand her feelings.
Fortunately, the series takes care not to take itself too seriously and deals with some touching romance themes in comedic and heartfelt ways. It’s a nice break from this genre’s usual slice-of-life shoujo mangas.
The romance between Tomo and Jun is much more complex than most readers think. Still, the story does a great job of exploring their relationship’s progression while tackling various topics in comedic and touching ways. The manga also looks at the issues surrounding gender stereotyping and how it can be harmful, which is always a plus.
