Union Budget 2022: No change I-T slabs, FM announces digital currency and sops for agri, infra sectors | Highlights – Jagran English

New Delhi | Jagran Business Desk: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday presented the Union Budget 2022-23 in the Parliament amid hopes to strengthen the Indian economy in the pandemic era. In her budget speech, the Finance Minister said that India’s growth is estimated to be at 9.27 per cent in the current year.
She also announced the launch of India’s own digital currency by the RBI next year that will be based on Blockchain technology. Sitharaman also said that taxpayers can now file an updated return within 2 years from the relevant assessment year.
Here are the highlights from day 2 of Parliament Budget Session as Nirmala Sitharaman presents Union Budget 2022-23:

13:47 hours: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tables the Union Budget 2022 and Fiscal Policy Statement 2022-23 in Rajya Sabha.

13:20 hours: This is a very good Budget. It is a very inclusive Budget that takes care of the interests of every section of society including the poor, rural and border areas, and the people living in the Northeast, says Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

13:15 hours: Extremely disappointing, a damp squib! There seems to be absolutely nothing in this Budget. It’s an astonishingly disappointing Budget. When you listen to the speech, no mention of MGNREGA, of Defence, of any other urgent priorities facing the public, says Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

12:24 hours: The gross GST collections for the month of January 2022 are Rs 1,40,986 crores which is the highest since the inception of GST, says Nirmala Sitharaman.

12:20 hours: I propose to provide that any income from transfer of any virtual digital asset shall be taxed at the rate of 30 per cent. No deduction in respect of any expenditure or allowance shall be allowed while computing such income, except cost of acquisition, Nirmala Sitharaman announces.
12:18 hours: Corporate surcharge to be reduced from 12 per cent to 7 per cent, Nirmala Sitharaman announces.
12:15 hours: Both Centre and States government employees’ tax deduction limit to be increased from 10 per cent to 14 per cent to help the social security benefits of state government employees and bring them at par with the Central government employees, Nirmala Sitharaman announces.
12:13 hours: To provide an opportunity to correct an error, taxpayers can now file an updated return within 2 years from the relevant assessment year, Nirmala Sitharaman announces.
12:02 hours: BREAKING: Digital rupee to be issued using blockchain and other technologies; to be issued by RBI starting 2022-23. This will give a big boost to the economy, announces Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:53 hours: 68 per cent of the capital procurement budget for Defence to be earmarked for domestic industry to promote Aatmanirbharta and reduce dependence on imports of defence equipment. This is up from the 58 per cent last fiscal, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:52 hours: To reduce the delay in payment, an online bill system to be launched which will be used by all Central ministries, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:51 hours: SEZ (Special Economic Zones) Act will be replaced with new legislation…for the development of enterprise and hubs… It will cover the existing industrial enclaves and enhance the competitiveness of exports, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:47 hours: Use of Kisan Drones to be promoted for crop assessment, digitization of land records, spraying of insecticides and nutrients, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:45 hours: Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat has received excellent response, with potential to create 60 lakh new jobs and additional production of 30 lakh crore during next Keycap digit five years, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:42 hours: Issuance of E-passports will be rolled out in 2022-23 to enhance convenience for citizens, says Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
11:41 hours: This will include a network of 23 tele mental health centres of excellence with Nimhans being the nodal centre and IIIT Bangalore providing technology support, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:40 hours: The pandemic has accentuated mental health problems in people of all ages. To better the access to quality mental health counseling and care services, a National Tele Mental Health program will be launched, says Nirmala Sitharaman.

11:33 hours: An open platform for the National Digital Health Ecosystem will be rolled out. It will consist of digital registries of health providers and health facilities, unique health identity and universal access to health facilities, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:27 hours: MSMEs such as Udyam, e-shram, NCS and Aseem portals will be interlinked, their scope will be widened… They will now perform as portals with live organic databases providing G-C, B-C and B-B services such as credit facilitation, enhancing entrepreneurial opportunities, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:25 hours: Chemical-free natural farming will be promoted throughout the country with a focus on farmers’ land in 5 km wide corridors along the river Ganga, in the first stage, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
11:23 hours: Procurement of wheat in Rabi season 2021-22 and the estimated procurement of paddy in Kharif season 2021-22 will give cover 1208 lakh metric tonnes of wheat and paddy from 163 lakh farmers and Rs 2.37 lakh crores will be the direct payment of MSP value to their accounts, says Nirmala Sitharaman.
